AFAANZ Show Wrap Up
AFAANZ Conference 2023 is now complete, and it was again an amazing chance for Chartered Accountants ANZ to meet and engage with academics and educators from around the world.
On behalf of Chartered Accountants ANZ, we would like to say thank you to everyone who visited us during the 2023 AFAANZ conference.
AFAANZ 2023 successfully wrapped up on 4 July, with the annual week-long conference bringing together academics from across Australia and New Zealand to The Star, on the beautiful Gold Coast.
Chartered Accountants ANZ was elated and honoured to have proudly served as the platinum sponsor of this esteemed and prestigious event again. The agenda was jam packed including special interest groups, and doctoral symposiums discussing the future of the accounting profession.
Our leaders and guest speakers, Dr. Brad Potter and Joel Watson, presented on a range of topics with some key highlights including:
- How we are shaping the attractiveness of the profession to inspire future generations, by understanding the behaviours, preferences, and motivations of Gen Z.
- Intricacies of digital reporting and the growing momentum towards its adoption in Australia and New Zealand, and the limitations of traditional, two-dimensional corporate reporting and auditing.
- The crucial role accountants play in driving sustainability and how with evolving research and access to extensive data, they have an unparalleled opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
We’d like to take the opportunity to thank those who have provided input into the ‘Attracting the next generation of talented accounting and finance professionals’ research run by DXP Consulting.
If you have not and would like the opportunity to complete the simple online survey, your feedback is valued!

HIGH SCHOOL TOOLKITS
High School Toolkit – your fresh perspective on accounting
To help members talk about what they do, we have produced a presentation for audiences in high school (from Year 9) in Australia and New Zealand.
Industry jargon can be frustrating for even the most seasoned career professional, so why should we expect students to respond?
At a time when the number of accounting graduates across Australia and New Zealand continues to decline, language is critically important for how we position the profession to new generations.
The truth is traditional business parlance doesn’t always capture the possibility, creativity and variety typical of modern accounting careers.
Chartered Accountants ANZ offers a High School Toolkit to help educators talk about accounting in a way that’s fresh, interactive and tailored to student interests.
We’ve created some informative (and colourful) Career Cards that find new ways to frame traditional service lines such as taxation, forensic accounting and corporate finance.
Students can discover the average annual salary of a ‘financial bodyguard’, the subjects that will put them on the path to a career as a ‘crime fighter’; and the skills that will stand them in good stead as a ‘skilled negotiator’.
The Toolkit has everything you need to lead a dynamic and interesting discussion. There’s a PowerPoint presentation with video testimonials and an interactive quiz, and speaker notes to help you answer any curly questions.
The Toolkit can be easily adapted for group exercises and optimised with your own style and flair.
Sound good? Head over to our website to download everything you need to get started.
